sarah's blogRandom act of kindnessAnyone who comments on this entry either here or at Livejournal will be entered into a drawing for a needle felted pin, probably of a flower. In the comment tell me what you are looking forward to most about Spring. I certainly would like more colors and inspirations in nature. Sarah

XOXOI've developed a theory. This theory requires you to pretend the meaning for XOXO is X= hugs and O= kisses. I realize that some people do it opposite of that. I do not understand those people. If X=hugs X also = weaving. Weaving is very old and very basic. It is not glamourous but it is neccesary and creates things we take for granted much like hugs. If we are in need of comfort we slip into our old jeans, grab a quilt or other woven fabric blanket and hide from the world. The warp and weft of your weaving cross over each other like your body with a friends arms.
html funLet's annoy my webmaster You know I knit and weave, but you didn't know that I'm an elementary education major
NeedlesI've said before that I pretty much am content and able to knit everything I want to knit with four sets of needles. Well yesterday I switched it up. Since I knit my first felted purse I had been using mostly a 24" Addi Turbo circular, US 10.5 or 6.5mm. A very nice needle luckily, based on the price, but it was a bit too slippery sometimes, even though I like that for speed. The downfall was for decreases or color knitting it was sooo dull that I could just barely knit.
If I tell all of you it might work.My current fiber arts to do list: Weave blanket for Max P. He was born December 28th, but the baby shower isn't until February or March so I'll be ok. It will be 24 x 32 Cotton Tots in several shades of blues. Weave shiny rayon scarf in spring colors. Warp is hand dyed rayon by Robin Edmundson (www.morenna.com) in purples and greens. The weft is a standard rayon weaving yarn in a bright pale green. Finish weaving my second framed scene. I'm about a third of the way through with the weaving process. Once a backdrop is woven I will do some embroidery work to finish it up.
Balling yarnI don't ball my yarn. I'm comfortable enough with untangling, and don't get very annoyed with it, so I just knit from the ball. There are two exceptions: 1) I buy yarn in a hank, absolutely mus be balled. If I buy it online, I ball it myself, if I buy it at a yarn store, they do that for me. 2) On the rare occasion I spin with my drop spindle, when my spindle is full, I ball the yarn! It is much easier to find misplaced ends and get it off well, if you ball before you take the hole out of the stick.
Because it's finals week, I have nothing better to doI'm doing another scene weaving on a frame loom. This one is also a landscape and I'm using absolutely no pictures this time. Who knows how it will turn out. I am trying to use more colors, more textures, more weaving techniques, and more embroidery and finishing techniques. Wish me luck.
What I knitI've talked much more about what I weave than what I knit. Right now I'm in a knitting slump where I use two sizes of needles to do all of my projects. 10.5 24 inch circulars and size 1 dpns do it all for me. The large circs are for purses, most of what I knit. I can knit a purse with one to five skeins of wool in a day or two then felt it and it's complete. I started knitting felted purses using patterns but now pretty much all of them are entirely my own design.
Disaster struckWhile I was working on the red and gold log cabin scarf my cat jumped on the loom, breaking about half of the warp threads. I had 12 inches woven, so I just tied it off and am going to tie it around my christmas tree trunk.
