Yarn

Since I started spinning I haven't bought much yarn. What yarn I have bought has been feltable wool for purses to sell. I love making them, and there really are a lot of options in wools of that thickness (usually worsted and a bit of bulky). But I recently have found myself desperately wanting to try some new commercial yarns.

The first yarn I have been interested in, Louet Euroflax Linen is a classic linen yarn of about sportweight. Linen is a fiber I haven't tried much of, it's gorgeous, softens with wear, and holds up to high use. Currently I'd either want to weave a lace scarf using the Mexican Leno I learned in Jane Patrick's weaving class, or a knit market bag.

Another yarn I've been interested in for quite a while is Socks that Rock lightweight from Blue Moon Fiber Arts. It's a 100% superwash wool sock yarn. Everyone says the base yarn is amazing, and the dye artists do such a great job. I like the Fairgrounds and The Claw colorways. Fairgrounds might be a little bright, but I can't help but want it, many of my best memories have been at our county fair. The Claw has shades of lavender and orange that somehow go very well together.

The last yarn I've fallen in love with lately is Habu's Silk and Stainless steel yarn. This yarn uses a very thin thread of stainless steel covered by silk. They also have a similar yarn made with wool. This yarn has a memory and can be used for semi stable designs. You can shape a scarf knit with this yarn into a bow or gently cascading waves.

What yarns have you never tried that you think would change your views as a fiber artist?
